I have a digital cable box and am looking into getting an inexpensive receiver to go with all my speakers. I want to hook my TV audio into the receiver but I don't know how. I have the standard Co-ax cable running from box to an rf modulator into the TV. Do I need to split off that somewhere and run the co-ax to the receiver? If I do that, what adapter(s) should I get? The receiver I looked at only had RCA inputs.

Grady, you should have a digital audio output on that cable box. That is what you use to feed audio into a (Dolby Digital capable) receiver.

Okay, I found that output on my box, but the receiver I'm looking at only has RCA inputs. Is there a way to convert that?

That's what I meant by "Dolby Digital capable" receiver. You need to look at receivers with digital audio inputs, both coax and optical. Even if you converted analog stereo to digital--not easily or cheaply done--you would not have true DD 5.1 sound.
