I have a Pioneer 110 watt per channel reciever and I bought the Infinity tss 450 speaker set. It is 100 watts. I had the speakers hooked up and within 10 minutes, they started crackling. I could stand next to the reciever with no problem of being to loud. Do you think those were just defective speakers or do I need some that are at least 110 watts?

Negative, you have a problem somewhere in the system causing the noise.

Use process of elimination problem solving to isolate the problem.

Listen to the system on multiple sources... does it only happen on tuner? dvd? etc...

Double check all of the system wires, is there a wire with a pinch spot that could be causing a minor short when heated?

Is the noise coming from one speaker, just the fronts, or all?

Check your line level cables for a bad connector, connection, or fault in the wire.

If you exhaust all of your problem solving steps and still have the noise, then the problem is most likely in the receiver. try your speakers hooked up to another receiver as a test.
