Why would I connect the video output of my DVD player to an A/V Receiver?

This might be a dumb question. Why would I connect the video out of my DVD player to my receiver and then connect the video out of my receiver to my monitor/TV? Why wouldn't I just connect my DVD video out directly to the video in of my monitor/TV? What's the benefit of running the signal through the receiver???

none, unless you have multiple video sources and only one input on your tv. this way you can also control everything via the receiver.

Thanks. My TV has 4 video in's so I'll go with the direct connect. Going through the receiver just sounds like a way to keep the video cable manufacturers in business....
