RCA for surround sound?

Hello,
I just purchased my first HTIB surround sound system (Onkyo ht-s570). It has 1 coax input, 1 optical input, and multiple red and white stereo RCA inputs. I have a DVD player with a coax output, an HDTV with an optical output and a cable box with a coax output. I'd like to get 5.1 surround sound from all 3.

1. Is there any way to get two components to connect to the same coax jack?

2. If not, will I still get 5.1 surround sound by connecting my cable box via plain old stereo RCA cables? (where the program is broadcast in 5.1).

Thanks

Actual 5.1 will only work if the source (i.e., DVD player, Dolby cable box) is connected to the receiever via optical or optical.

Scotty2Hotty,

Is there any way to get two components connected to the same input. Do they make some sort of combiner?

Yes, there are digital optical switches available that will let you use one input for several devices. Try searching online and you should find them.

Some receivers can up-convert stereo to 5.1-7.1, but I'm not sure if your Onkyo does that. Otherwise, as Scotty said, a surround output would be the only way to go.
