I am looking to use these to drive some Onkyo SKS-HT240 for mainly movies, are these any good?

hey ben, you and me seem to be in the same boat...am more a movies guy and I like what i have seen/heard about the SKS-HT240...

for receiver, I did some more research yesterday...check out the Yamaha RX-V1400 or its sibling the Yamaha HTR-5790 (identical different series). Both seem to give plenty and are cheaper than Denons/HKs...havent decided yet, but am leaning towards a Yamaha now...

I was able to check some prices...Best Buy has it ...and 4electronicswarehouse.com (Auth. Yamaha dealer) has it for $590 right now (though its out of stock)

Let me know if you come up with some good ideas...

Those both look like very nice receivers but I am looking for something a little more economical. I was hoping to keep everything under $700 with new speaker wire.

Just get regular 14 gauge or 16 gauge wire and spend your money on the receiver.

I am looking at 250-300 receiver and 380 speakers. The wire is already being cheaped. Anyway, did anyone have a look at the AVR-235, it's the next level up and seems to be better for a small price.

I dont see why you dont match it with the feature packed onkyo 502 receiver.. especially for a 6.1 speaker system and its bargain price.

The HK's do look damn sexy though..
