Another Xbox surround sound question....

... this one should be fairly easy though !!

I want to output surround sound from my Xbox. I have the High Definition AV pack and an optical cable. The problem lies with my surround system.

I have a Technics DV280 system. All this has in the way of inputs is 2 sets of RCA connections for a VCR and an AUX input. I have no optical input and therefore can't use the AV pack.

Can someone suggest a ( preferably cheap ) product I could buy to take the optical input and output it through my existing speakers.

I had thought of buying an amplifier that could accept the optical input from the Xbox and the 5 inputs from my DVD system and output whichever is selected to the 5 speakers I have, but couldn't find anything suitable.

Any help would be appreciated.

You need a receiver that can accept digital optical inputs.

OK. Do you know of any products I could use, just so I can get an idea of what I should look for.

I have looked for a suitable receiver but can't find one. The two large speakers have 4 wires connecting them to the Technics system, a red and red/black and a blue blue/black for each speaker.

I can find receivers that output from one output per speaker ( eg red and red/black ) but not two channels.

Any ideas ?

Until you get a receiver or another suitable equipment that can accept digital inputs, you are relegated to stereo, the best you can do is pro-logic as surround.

Check out Circuit City or Best Buy and look at some of the Home Theater receivers that they should have on sale at this time.
