16:9 Widescreen TV's

I have a question about WS tvs. All of my DVDs in my collection are in widescreen format except for like 5 out of 40 DVD's. With a widescreen TV with a ratio of 16:9 would all of them fill up the screen or would only certain ones because some DVDs have different ratios like 1:85:1 or 1:33:1. Ive heard of some DVD movies that still show black bars on WS tv's. What do those ratios mean?

I had my eye on this TV:

Philips 26" Widescreen Flat-Tube TV with Component Video Inputs

The ratio is width to height. For DVDs that are wider than 16:9 you will still get the 'letterbox' effect of the black bars. (Same if the width is less, -like 4:3- you will get bars left/right.)

I have a WS TV and love it. Most WS TVs have various options to fill the entire screen when watching analog TV. You usually can not change the picture format when watching HD, but it seems most programming I get in HD is wide screen.
