Connecting VCR through home cinema system

Hi,

I've got a JVC AVC28T4 TV and an Eltax Nova DVD home cinema system. The TV is connected to the DVD/Home Cinema via the TV's EXT-1 SCART and the DVD's only SCART In/Out. This works fine and I can listen to the TV and DVDs in surround sound.

However, I've just bought a BUSH NICAM VCR (936NSIL), which I connected from its only SCART to the TV's EXT-2 Terminal. The VCR works fine through the TV, but I only get static noise through the DVD/Home Cinema. Is it possible to get surrond sound from this VCR via the TV, or do I need a scart splitter and go direct?

The TV has 3 Scarts (EXT-2 and 3 can accept either composite or S-Video signal), EXT-1 Composite only, and EXT-2 is T-V LINK VCR compatible). The DVD/Home Cinema and VCR have only 1 SCART each.

Thanks!
