What is Virtual Surround Sound? I'm currently looking for a new DVD Player,i've seen one that i would like (Yamaha DVS5650B) but it doesnt have Virtual Surround Sound.I want to connect it to a Yamaha HTR5660B which i would also like to get soon.I'm currently using a run of the mill Home Theatre In A Box so i'm upgrading fairly soon. I want the most for my money so will this combination be good or i need to find a DVD Player with Virtual Surround Sound to make the most out of this set up.Another benefit to me with the Yamaha is the fact it will convert PAL/NTSC DVD'S. Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.
At least on my Kenwood DV-4070 DVD player, Virtual Surround Sound means that it takes the center channel from the 5.1 and mixes it into the R/L Front channels. I'm not sure if it tries to mix the rear R/L channels and uses something similar to EAX(as in the Creative Labs technology for PC). If you have a full surround 5.1 system(Front R/L, Front Center, Rear R/L, Subwoofer(optional)), you would not need VSS.
