Philly's decade of sports success
Now that the Flyers have reached their first Stanley Cup Finals since 1997, Philadelphia has achieved a unique sporting distinction. Among cities with teams in the four major sports, only Philadelphia has reached championship rounds in all four in the current decade

Goons? Today? Bench clearing brawls used to occur monthly in those days. When was the last time you saw one of those in todays NHL?Stick swinging duels? Hello Ted Green and Ace Bailey.
Been watching for 50 years as well and the 5' 8" players of the 50s,60s, and 70s couldn't even make it in todays NHL. The taller, heavier, stronger, better conditioned athletes of today would laugh at those players. I know it doesnt fit your image of the good old days but by any measure, in any sport athletes are better today. World records continue to be broken in every sport. 4 minute miles, 10 second hundred meters and 6' high jumps dont cut it.
Of course hockey players are different, right?
The only thing the old players COULD do better was goon it up. Mike, as a Philly fan would certainly rememeber this.

Go Hawks Go.
PS I listened to the Hawks last Stanley Cup win. TV was only for the wealthy back then
