My laptop does not have a 9-pin communication port (it has 15 or 26 pins and a couple of usbs). I bought a USB to serial port cable to download the bin file into my receiver. With this cable, I have been assigned com 5. Neither BL nor toybox uploader has com 5 options. Any suggestions to download the bin file through usb to serial cable?

pegg: do you have an sd card? 3500sd?
load it on to the sd card thru usb card reader, $14 at wally world, good for saving and editing channel list also.
there are port config. programs (tsr) run through dos, loads on boot up.
do a google search "com port configure freeware"

You might be able to play around with the USB-to-serial adapter's driver to assign the device to something lower than COM5.

Try unistalling the driver, manually install a COM port (say COM3), and then re-install the USB-to-serial driver.

If that doesn't work, try going into the driver settings are re-assign its resources to a lower COM port.

I've gotten most USB-to-serial drivers to work using the above methods.
