I want to improve my TVs picture quality when viewing DVDs. So I was just woundering how effective component video cables really are and what exactly do they really do to the picture quality? Thanks

They will lower the video noise a little and slightly improve color resolution. Without progressive scan, that's about it.
Use some cheap audio cables as a test and try it out.
