long story short, I tried to use screws that didn't come with the tv to attach it to its base/stand (i know - stupid & careless) - lost the original screws long ago, 3rd year with this tv - one of the screws went in too far and scratched very badly the strip that can be seen in the pictures attached. I now have a thick (approx. 2") black line running vertical down the tv screen.
Please tell me I didn't just destroy my tv - is there any way to repair/fix/jimmy, etc something on there to get that connection working again? I'm a 23 y/o law school student so I really don't have any money to put into this. I know this tv isn't worth a ton now a days but when i bought it I was getting a deal at $500+ so I'm really hoping I didn't just throw that away.
Any advice, suggestions, etc. or if anyone has a suggestion for a different forum to try, it would be much appreciated.

the photos are kind of upside down. the top of the image is the bottom of the tv.
