Which would be better at dvd recording as far as quiality and life expectancy of the machine
A Daytek 3101 special
or a Samsung Dvd vr 375 combo?
please let me know the pros and the cons as far as how easy it would be to back up my old (unfortuantely macrovision protected) videos onto dvd.
Thanks
Jason

You can't use a combo to copy protected tapes unless you use a seperate VCR and stabilizer. All recorders are pretty much crap these days unless you want to buy a used one on ebay or pay a hefty price for a Canadian model where decent brands like Pioneer can still be bought but come with no warranty.

For VHS a cheapie should work. You can get them on ebay. MCM Electronics used to sell them for $20 + shipping, I don't know if they still do. They are called digital video stabilizer.
