I've seen quite a few messages in this section from owners of Sony rear projection TVs. If you're here because you have a problem with your Sony Rear Projection TV (like 10s of thousands of other poor souls), you're in the wrong section of this site and won't find much help, this is the LCD/Flat Panel section. Go to the Rear Projection section of the eCoustics website here: https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/home-video/15131.html and you'll have much more success.

If you suffer from any of the following well documented problems with the Sony RP TVs, which stem from a defective Optical Block, check out the link to the appropriate eCoustics message thread at the bottom of this message. There you will find help from many other Sony RP owners who have experienced these problems, and instructions on how to approach Sony for repair or replacement of your TV. Some models with OB problems have been covered by a special extended warranty from Sony, which you can find out about here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=206. Others are not covered even though they have the same problems. Those owners will need to contact Sony directly using the instructions provided in that thread listed at the bottom.

Some common OB related problems:
Growing blue discoloration, usually starting in the bottom left or right corner and spreading across the screen over time. For some model TVs the color might be yellow or green.

A blue "star" type of pattern on your screen.

Something that looks like "fingerprints" on your screen, color of the fingerprints may vary.

A Scribble pattern that looks something like an Etch-A-Sketch on your screen.

If your Sony RP TV suffers from any of the aforementioned problems go to the link below and don't forget to check the archived messages in that section as well for additional information.
