My TV and couch is ~10.5 ft. away from each other.

I'm planning on buying a 56" or 61" DLP.

Which size is more appropriate? Obviously, the 61" is more money, but if I can get away with a 56", I'd rather do that. Anyone have experiences with this distance and set size?

You haven't indicated if the DLP you are considering is a 720P or a 1080P native resolution display. I think bigger is better if it's a 1080P. The 56 will look great no matter the format.

The calculation is:
Height of screen/vertical resolution x 3400=viewing distance in inches.

A 56" dlp with a 720p format will best be viewed 11 ft away.
This same 56" with a 1080 format is best viewed only 7.3 ft away. If you sit 11 ft away your eye won't resolve the extra resolution of 1080.
