i am looking into buying an HDTV soon -probably a magnavox(51") or toshiba (46"). I know an HD receiver has to be bought (about $150 right) and am just wondering if anything else will need to be factored in. also i have read about how many bulbs go out after just 2-3 years. how expensive generally is it to fix them? is there any other costs that usually you need to watch out for after a few years? thanks a bunch

db-bass,

1: You need to list the model numbers of the sets.
1a: If it was ME, I'd do a SEARCH with those model numbers in hand.. and see what "owners" are saying Keep in mind that for the most part, most owners of most any product DON'T come to boards like these IF they've never had problems so take everything you read with a grain of salt.

2: Lamps do need to be replaced... fiqure in the cost of replacement lamp when choosing set.
3: You may want to get an Extended warranty that covers lamps.

Good thing on most sets is by replacing the "lamp" you're up and running again. $200 every three years isn't too bad.

BTW: Radio Shack has a HD-Tuner for $89

Here's the HD-Tuner : http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...2032057.2032180

Here's the specs: http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...1&tab=techSpecs

Here's the owner's manual: http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/uc/r...03499_PM_EN.pdf

PS: Anyone got a SERVICE MANUAL for a SAMSUNG SIR-T451 ? https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/home-video/157302.html

db-bass,
The reason I say to list the model numbers/mfg of the sets you have in mind is one model may be better than another in the same size range. Just saying magnavox(51") or toshiba (46") I would think would include "good sets", and sets that were not so good.

For example on some sets the "lamp" is around $200... and then on another set the lamp is $500 -$600... They could be in the same size range, so all things being equal you'd be a fool to buy the one taking the $600 lamp given the choice... right?
