I have been planning a purchase for quite some time now, and put a lot of energy into researching and a lot thinking about the choices. Up until yesterday I had made up my mind that I was going to purchase the HL-R4667W. I can't fit a 50 inch in the space, and ultimately decided on DLP over LCD. I plan to watch HD OTA, and the samsung has the tuner built in. Yesterday I started thinking about audio to go with the HD, and learned that this TV has only analog audio out, which cannot support the Dolby 5.1 that HD OTA carries. Why would anyone make a TV with a built in ATSC tuner, and not provide the cabability to listen to the sound in Dolby 5.1? It really seemed like I had found the right tv.

Now I'm rethinking, the Sony has a digital audio out, however I had decided that I wanted DLP. Also the only size sony makes that will fit is 42 inch. I might just go with the LG (which is about $300 less than the Samsung for the 44 in), and purchase a tuner separately.

You have overlooked the optical audio output on the Samsung, which is Dolby 5.1 compatable.

Mine works fine with my Onkyo home theater system.

You are right, I didn't overlook it though - just didn't look hard enough. I'm a little confused as to why I have to dig all the way into the owners manual to find this information. The "specifications" section on samsung's website here (http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/support/b2c_support_product_results.jsp? eUser=&model=75570&listType=UM&CatPath=%2fAudio+and+Video%2fTV%2fDLP+TV) only states:

"Monitor and Sound Out (RCA) - 1 rear"

The spec sheet here (http://product.samsung.com/SamsungUSA/PRODUCT/20050608/hlr_dlp_spec.PDF) states:

"Monitor, Autido, Subwoofer Out - 1 rear" - no mention of either optical/coax/rca

I downloaded the owners manual, in there you can see the optical out. Thanks for setting me straight!

I just bought one of these sets. I'm really impressed except for the lack of PIP capabilities. I've posted a comment in another thread regarding that. You might want to look into it if PIP is a big part of your decision to buy.

And yes, the optical cable is the best way to go. But get a high quality cable. The sound is amazing on my Bose.
