i have comcast analog cable which receives about 35 channel, is there anyway i could unlock it for me to receive 75 channels?

will a cable box work?

Anonymous

A black box will get you some ppv channels, as long as your still receiving an analog signal. Once they switch to digital the show is over and the box is worthless.

hey dudes, i recently moved into my first apartment and signed up for comcast cable internet and local cable television (channels 2-22). I have an old cheater box that my family used about ten years ago before digital cable to receive movie channels and ppvs. Anyway, my question is if i connect my old cheater box to my tv will i get basic cable with it? What's most important to me is to have comedy central or espn, stuff like that. any help would be appreciated.

tttt, can't give you any advice about boxes. Mine is now dead because they switched my service to digital.I had analog for a long time and enjoyed 3 movie channels until they switched me to digital. My box is an old one. There are a lot of boxes on the web. From what I read on this forum most posts say digital boxes don't work on digital. Boxes for analog service do work. Good Luck

Please advise

I have free analog cable, have had it for years, I also have a "black box" which gave me a good deal of free PPV channels.....until last year, now all I get is "basic" cable(TBS,MTV,etc.) Is there sometype of converter I can buy to pick up the higher band channels?(maybe analog to digital?) I don't really care about getting all the PPV stuff or premium channels(HBO,Showtime, etc)If anyone out there has valuable info please share. Happy New Year!

Please advise, like I just mentioned in the previous post to tttt. If you read a lot of the earlier posts they say there is no way to hack digital as of yet. If you want to not beleive those posts, there are a lot of people that will sell you so called digital boxes. In fact just go to "Posted on Thursday, January 06, 2005 - 03:28 pm:" and they claim they have the answer. I myself will keep my dough in my pocket until I see a lot of posts claiming digital has been cracked. Good Luck

yeah, my old box is an analog "black box," so maybe this will work and at least get me basic cable. Now, all I've got to do is tear the garage apart and find it. thanks dude.

ok, thanks for replying.
comcast has 2 plan for analog cable, one for $13 a month / 30 channels, and the other is $40 70 channels. if i order the 30 channels plan, and buy a cable box, will it give me the other analog plan, which is 70 channels.

if so, could you recommened me a box to buy

btw. i am only talking about analog cable, not digital cable.

tttt, I don't know the answer to that one, I already had extended basic when I was using the box. Just Google it, hundreds will come up. Depends how many bells & whistles you want with it.

Just read a newspaper article, where Comcast is goimg to offer you less channels and raising their prices. What a bunch of greedy pigs. And they can't understand why people are trying to get free service.

If I get a cable box or a descrambler will it open up all the channels that my cable company offers like pay per view and the movie stations

today, i was reading a local ads on a "ads book". then i saw an add that looks like cable box. i gave them a call and ask them if this box will work for comcast cable, they told me no, then i askeed them if it works for directv, he said no agian. he told me this box does not require any subscription to either satellite, comcast or any other. just a plain box taht receives channels. i was told this box could receive a "few hundred" channels.

does anyone know what kind of box this is?

agian, i was told this box does not need cable or satellite signal. just get channels itself

I JUST ORDERED TWO MOTOROLLA BOXES FOR 1 BRAZILIAN CHANNEL THAT I WANTED TO GET.I AM PAYING $19.99 A MONTH. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED COMCAST FOR ONE EXTRA CHANNEL. WHEN I GOT THE TWO BOXES, THE CHANNEL THAT I ASKED FOR DID NOT WORK. IT SAYS THE I HAVE TO ORDER IT. FOR SOME REASON THOUGH I GOT ALL THE CHANNELS, MOVIES, PPV ABOUT 900 CHANNELS. I WENT TO SEE MY ACCOUNT AND THEY ARE CHARGING ME 19.99 A MONTH. WILL THEY EVENTUALLY PICK UP ON IT?

Hey I've read all the posts that has been listed from start to finish! You all are cool! It's nice to finally see a post that actually respond to comments left by the guests:-)

Can anyone help me out... I just found my old General Instrument black box for Comcast. It looks like the box that was used for basic cable.<img>. when I connect it to my tv nothing happens. I just have the cable cord going to my VCR. I get all basic channels up to 99. Is there something I can do to the black box to get Hbo and showtime channels?

Any help would be appreciated here...I recently moved into a new apartment and have not setup any cable or DSS service yet. My question is for the time being, on the side of my building is the cable box (which is not locked!). I started messing with it last night and found one labeled E (my apartment) with a filter on it which was not patched to the panel at the top of the box. I made the connection, went upstairs and still got no picture. Do I have to order some sort of service first from Comcast in order to get a picture? If that's the case, I'm sure I'll order it then remove the filter and hope for the best. But for right now, I am just wondering if the signal running to coax cable E outside my apartment needs to be turned on from some Comcast Central office or something just because I didn't get any picture last night when I patched it. Thanks in advance!

IP-424 You need to remove the filter. It is preventing your video channels from coming through. I removed the filter that was attached to my line and now I have channels 2-72 & 98/99. :-)

Well, I have Comcast now. I got a pretty cheap introductory offer from them for basic cable & broadband for one year. But as soon as that year is up I will be switching to Satilite.Because the monthly payment will just about double for what I have now. Your right they are pigs. Greedy pigs. They are raising the monthly charges in a town nearby me and they are reducing the number of channels you will get at the new price. How much more can they screw us. And they wonder why we are here trying to get cable free.

It's simple. Just get the filter out of there!--whatever way you can. It's as easy as unplugging a lamp from a wall outlet. Just imagine something between the lamp plug and the wall outlet that doesn't let electricity flow through...just remove that "thing" that doesn't allow electricity to flow through and plug the lamp plug right into the socket.

I watched the comcast guy do the entire install. Even followed him out to the pedestal and watched him put the filter on so I knew exactly which port on hub was mine. I played stupid and asked him what the silver thing he was puting on the line was. hahahahah! I had to restrain myself when he said, "oh, it works wonders for you" That little $hit. I should have kicked him in his exposed but crack for that condescending remark!

i have had comcast internet for about a year but not the tv cable, but i decided to split the cable so i could watch it on my tv (the comcast guy told me it was posible) so i split it ant i got about 10 chanles but when i just sent the cable to the tv (so it dosent go through the modem just the tv) and i got about 25, but recently, since they introduced on demand i only get two, but i changed my room setup so now it goes threw 2 spliters and i was wondering if the more spliters i have will it perform worse?

Unregistered guest
tonedeaf-
technically, the more you split the signal, the worse it gets. It's like splitting a garden hose--the more splits, the lower the pressure. But with cable it is not nearly as drastic. You will see how much of a drain you're putting on the signal through the quality of the pictures on the TVs. I split the main line that goes into my house 4 times and I still get a perfect signal. So you will most likely have to split it quite a few more times before you start to see any sort of picture/signal degredation.

I have a Motorola DCT6412 HD/DVR receiver with the original serial # sticker still stuck on it that I want to get activated. When I connect it to the cable feed it says " One Moment Please ..." like it is waiting to get hit by Comcast, but since the tech never called it in the serial # is not in their database. Is there anyway I can hook it up & get it working without calling Comcast?

hey guys, i found my old "TV86 SSA" analog black box and after i connected it i only get a few more channels such as the history channel but they come in kind of blurry. However, this is where it gets weird...i get HBO...in perfect quality. Now don't get me wrong i love that i am getting HBO, but the local cable package i pay for now is really limited, i would really like to be able to get CNN and spike tv or tbs...ya know things like that.
if it helps at all i have comcast local cable service with cable internet. Any help you guys can offer would help a lot. When the installer came by he cut orr an end of my main cable line and installed a new piece onto the end of it before running it into a splitter that then went to my computer and to my television. was this a filter as well? I was going to open the box outside the building today but i don't have a star key to do it with either.

I live in a two family house (renting). 1 line into house, then 3 way splitter: 2 to owner TVs, one to my internet. Had free basic Comcast cable, but owner added second TV and cable installer installed low pass filter on my line. I have access (in basement), but don't want to alienate landlord. If I removed the filter, would that impact the owner's TV signal so they would notice? Given the setup (1 line, split) could Comcast determine offsite if I removed the splitter?

I have expanded basic cable (around 77 chanels plus a few unclear ones)I took my mothers old comcast Motorola Digital Cable Box (StarFone Model SFT2-H)to see if it would work if I hooked it up to my cable. It worked for about 4 months, then one day it just stopped. I scrolled though the archives and didn't really find any helpfull info. On the back of the box there is a slot for a "TV Pass Card". Is this important to have in order to get this thing to work? Are there filters inside of the box that can be removed? ... ETC. Just need some advice on how to jump start this thing again. Any Help Would Be Apprecaited!

HI JANE DOE!!! WELL FIRST THINGS FIRST!!! UR SAYING YOUR BOX WORKED FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS, RIGHT? AND NOW BASED ON WHAT YOUR SAYING I SUSPECT THERE IS A "0" IN THE LCD SCREEN OF YOUR DCT, RIGHT?/ WELL IF THERE IS, THAT UNIT HAS HAD IT!!! THAT MEANS THE BOX HAS BEEN SHUT OFF!!!! AND YES THE TV PASS CARD , PUTS' THE UNIT IN A TEST MODE WHICH IN TURN ALLOWS YOU TO SEE ALL CHANNELS. THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT HAVE THESE ARE TECHS. BASED ON WHAT I KNOW. EVERYONE, INCLUDING MYSELF, IS LOOKING FOR A TV PASS CARD!!!! HOPE THIS HELPS SOME!!!

There is No "0" on the LCD... The Menu screen appears and everything... but it only shows the channels I already get. But it helps to know about the Pass Card. I know someone who knows a couple of "dirty techs" at Comcast that might be able to neggotiate a price on a card. Thanks for all your help and I'll put up a post if I find anything out about the cards.

Alright guys and girls...input needed. I'm up in Portland, OR...formerly AT&T territory and now run by Comcast. About a year ago I upgraded from basic to a set top box. The installer came out and acted like he hooked us up...we had all the stations, no On Demand...but we had everything else...so we tipped the guy 30 bones. Well, 12 hours later, the box gets locked down and we just have access to our subscribed package. Last month we upgraded to HDTV and got a new Motorola box...took it home and it happened the same way...all the channels free for about 12 hours. I just installed one for my parents...same thing. During this time, there was no access to the menu or info systems...it was acting like a one way communications/open system...no PPV though. It seems to me that the system up here stays open until the box receives a request to register it's MAC...would it stay open if a filter was put in place? You may loose some functionality...on demand, menu, ppv etc...but you'd have most stations. Is there any way of spoofing a MAC address...like you can with a computer - or will the system shut down both boxes if it sees two of the same mac's? Anyway...just looking for feedback.

I doubt that MAC emulation would be able to do this. You got what you got.

My roommates an i wanted to try and get all of out cable channels for free so we look online and found a cable box claiming to get all the channels but you were "suppost" to tell the cable company that you could get these channels. So we decided to buy it and it only gets the original channels that we already had. We really got ripped of and the company that we bought it from said that we could return it but now they are being morons. Anyone know if you can get cable free with one of this boxes or what this box that i bought can do for you. Its a Tristar MX and i spent way too much money on it. Please help me if you can.

Wow....this forum is going nowhere. Time to brainstorm here. The principals of digital cable are quite similar to those in the networking world....addressable nodes on a network.
Lets break down progress....
*Analog 1-100 still works...but is not addressable.
*Comcast and others have made it a point to move all premium services to the digital bands.
*Nobody has concrete results descrambling digital cable because of the addressing issues.

Those of you with experience in the SAT arena will understand that digital cable and SAT scrambling techniques are very similar. Only SAT needs a phone line for full 2 way capability.

I have seen a number of generic digital cable boxes being produced in south Asia. Typically these rogue companies ultimatly produce what we are all looking for....as was the case in the analog days. From my experience both in Networking and CATV .... we will see the results in a dummy digital box. Possibly with an external eeprom card similar to SAT. This eeprom will be your bread and butter because it will give you the ability to delete all records of usage while providing a means act like a black hole for addressing issues. In other words...it provides your stealth. You all have noticed the 9 pin com port on the back of your boxes? Motorola and the other companies who built the spec for these boxes are binded to the cable providers. Lim Sum electronics (fictional Asian electronics maker) is not bound to anyone. Therefore your talking an OPEN spec.

I have been investigating this for quite some time and have heard rumors of kick a$$ results coming from the west coast.

We need our own forum to help knock heads to get our free football and boxing matches back !

Hope I made a few eyebrows raise up....

you can watch all channels if you bypass the cylinder using two splitters from Radio Shack

They put a basic cable filter on your line.....somewhere between the pole and your set. Usually they put these at junction points. It looks like a mini beer can and it cuts out the frequencies or channels they choose. In your case they cut you down to their most basic package. Unscrew it or cut it off and re splice....you should be back in business.

Do these filters for digital cable work in the long term, or are they just postponing the inevitable? Is there a legit way to reset the box without being billed after the filter is later taken off or the box is returned?

ok, so i gave up reading the thread but thought i'd chime in that PPV events are stored on the box. cable companies read the boxes when they go back to the storage, and all your PPV orders will go thru on your last bill, so have fun. only way you could maybe get out of it would be to burn out every chip in the box somehow.

I got comcast with internet and basic cable chanels. I can watch all chanels except the ppv chanels, 67-90 something? I cant remember all the chanels but anyways, its because I was talking to the cable installer and he told me that he forgot to put the filter on and he hinted as long as I didnt tell comcast that they would never know. I dont know about the whole 2 way deal I read in previous post, and for those who are reading this, 2 way meant that camcast could possibly know what chanels your watching?? This I am still not entirely convinced, but I do know this, no filter= all chanels. I was wondering if I called comcast and told them I didnt want to pay th $11 for basic cable, would they be able to turn it off remotely, or would they send some one out to place a new filter? Not that I would, $11 for allmost all the chanels is great :-)

Hey, I bought a descrambler box in Jan 02 from Florida. Now Comcast is coming after me with a lawsuit. I never used it cause it didn't work.
Was it illegal for me to purchase it? (NJ res.)
And why don't they know by their equipment that it was never used?
Any wisdom would be very much appreciated!!

There was a posting on 2/15 listing a site that is selling digital decoder boxes (www.cablewire/tv.com). I contacted their sales dept to ask about a replacement for a Scientific Atlanta Explorer. The replacement is listed on their site. I just wanted to pick their brain to see what they said about the product and how they are the only company that has a working digital decoder box. Well I spoke to two people (James / Steve.) When I got into the technical questions, they either placed me on hold or hung up on me. I called back several times and when speaking to Steve, he said I am just here to take phone orders and do not know how the product works. I asked to speak to someone who is knowledgeable about the products they sell. He said there is no one there that is technical or knows the product. I ask him, "how can you be a sales person for a product you know nothing about." He of course had no answer. He said if I wanted to place the order, he would take it otherwise he needed to disconnect the call because he had other potential customers to speak to. Prior to disconnecting the call, I ask how this replacement deals with the two-way communication between the box and the cable co. Steve did not know. I would probably warn everyone to not purchase from this site. It seems bogus to me. But, maybe someone can test the product. Steve claimed they provide a 30-day money back guarantee and 1 yr warranty. I wonder if they are associated with "newinternetsavings.com". If any one else has any feed back in regards to this site, please post it.

Two ill just eat up my intro rates for three months on my comcast/cable subscription. And lastly ill tap back into my neighbor's digital cable romoving thier filters, buy a cable modem/ and be happy with what i get. :-)Any objections?
