I am interested in finding out if any VCR/DVD Recorders allow for copying several VHS tapes onto a single DVD disc.

Yes, but the quality will be very poor.

Well I am working in an education and we are researching copying several half hour video tapes onto dvd and would prefer to more than one half hour per dvd.

Is the stand alone VHS-DVD recorders the best option?

Do many VHS-DVD recorders have the option to add chapters (either manually or automatically)?

If you use SP you can get 4 half hour tapes on a DVD. They have to be non-protected tapes or you won't be able to copy them. If using DVD-R discs, most recorders set chapters every 5 minutes or so when the discs are finalized, I think the Pioneer will let you pick 10 minutes, maybe some other settings. To set chapters exactly where you want them you would either have to use a PC, or record in VR mode on RW discs, which only a few DVD players can play. Yes, a standalone is probably the best option.
