RGB to component cables. OTA-DTV box to TV.

A question for TV teccies.

I have a Toshiba 42' CRT RPTV display. I use a Samsung SIR-T451 HD tuner connected via component cables running 1080i. I'm very happy with the set up.

I would use the DVI connection but I'm running a Denon 2910 up-converting DVD player I so can't spare the TV's only DVI input for the DTV box (and don't want to spend $250.00 for a switcher).

Out of curiosity I tried using an RGB (15 pin d-sub) to component cable in place of the regular component cables but despite what it says in the manual this didn't produce a picture. RGB was plugged into the DTV box and components to the TV input.

The manual states that the tuner can output 480p, 720p and 1080i from the RGB out so why doesn't the signal reach my TV in a readable form?
