hey sup all of u guys.. hope you can help me with my situation here.. well im finally on my way for my first ht..which will be mostly used for movies and some music ... a 60 / 40 ratio... i have just shifted to a new house and have just picked up a lcd.. and onwards to the long list of problems i face.. coz of my small room size ok here goes..
current setup
1) samsung 32r5 lcd (just bought) thats it.

im linkin my room blueprint which i drew on paint .. but hopefully yall should get the idea..

my questions are

1) is 5.1 possible .. seeing my viewing positon which will be my bed unfortunately??

2) a friend suggested a 2.1 n amp combo . saying it would be enough for my room size and 5.1 is not worth it as surrounds dont do much (i disagree) where movies r concerned.. but it got me thinking.. will it sound wierd? coz of my postions of the rear.

3) what rear speaker placement should i get ..
down firing (up on a height) or bookshelf stands and ear level?

4) is it true u need to have some distance between the sitting position and the rear speaker? coz mine will be right next to the bed @ a 90 degree angle.. like the speakers facing my ears.

the red circles and black boxes r the speaker placements..... any changes r welcome..

llX12 what is your budget?? its possible for sure. i have 12 x 12 bedroom w/ great ht sound. problem is the music suffers. for HT, u won't have a problem, u could even get away w/ htib if your on a budget. for me, i have B&w ds6 dipole surrounds on wall so that i actually hear the sound. u can go w/ any company, just dipole in general will give you better sound dispersion in a small room mounted on-wall. check out klipsch at bestbuy for fronts and center (center and fronts must match) and go w/ some onwall dipoles for sound dispersion with a decent sub (check out hsu technology) that may kick some a** in a small room.

jeff im glad u posted for a 5.1 ...for dipole placements in my room.. i think it will reflect in a wierd way... im posting a snap with black markers as how i "think" the sound will reflect.. but then again .. im so confused about the rear placement its not even funny... im liking the athena sound.. loved the mcra's hopeing to audition the asb1 or b2's .... what about wharfedale 9hcp?

ps there is a big gap between my left surround.. and my wardrobe.. and the right surround is right next to a wall.. please chek the snap and guide me as to how or which speakers i should get n where do i place them..

When you are dealing with HT, simply filling the room is not an issue. You want the surround effect of say game noise in the back and the game itself in the front etc. It is true that music will suffer, however with your bed and TV situated as the center of the room, I may be wrong, but I will say that even if you are listening to music, the TV will be on all the time. Your movie/TV vs. music ratio is probably much higher.

Go with a 5.1 and if you can put the middle speaker above or below the TV.

If you don't think bipoles will do, then angle the speakers towards the bed.
