Hi there,

I have just purchased a 42" plasma that weighs about 48KG!! I want to mount it on a stud wall. Does anyone have any experience on attaching plates to a stud wall? Am I mad even contemplating it or will it be fine providing I use big enough screws (14x1.5" ok?)

14x1.5"?? They will barely make it through the drywall.

You should be using at a minimum 3" screws. Maybe 8x3...

I am worried that 8's might bend. Good point about 1.5" though. Maybe 14x3" ?

Is this a flat panel?

You may be better off mounting a thin shelf on the wall with brackets underneath that hold the weight and then mounting the TV slightly into the wall while mostly resting it on the shelf. This way you can be sure the shelf will hold and the monitor won't lean over and fall off.
