I have decided to purchase Onkyo TX-SR601 for my receiver and would like to know what's a the best speakers to match with it. I'm planning on using it for HT and music equaly. My price range is about $500.00 for the speakers. Also what subs should I consider? I've heard velodynes are good but polk seems a bit cheaper watts/$ wise.... Thank for your response in advance.

Here is ts-xr501 real cheap (refurb).

They also have 601 - look around for good a good deal.

For speakers, try to hear these and go with one you like - you gotta like it. These are pretty good ones.

And this sub:

This one is hard to hear, but is probably the best sounding - they cut out the middleman and sounds good!

Front m3ti
Back QS4
AMMS4 center
AES sub

All for About $800 and it will sound even better than the above ones - I would recommend this one over others. You can read reviews on them here.

Many audiophiles are saying it's the best deal in afforadable speakers.

Axiom is a bit too high priced for my budget. However, I did looked at the pair JBL Northridge E80 series and they did sound nice. I was wondering what everyone else thinks of this model?

Do you want just 2 speakers or 5 ?
JBL is not bad but there are better. However, if you really like them, it's your toy - you got to like them - get them.

If you just want 2, Athena bookshelf and a sony sub sound good at $300.
