Right now I have a pioneer vsx d514 receiver hooked up to two infinity beta 20s as fronts and two infinity tss 1100 speakers as rears theres No sub or center. I have them hooked up to my computer via spdif through an auzentech X-plosion sound card. I was wandering if I upgraded to paradigm titan monitor v5 would there be a difference in sound? are the titans superior to the betas? I cant audition them because no one sells them locally im planning to order them online. Please any advice would be good

The Titans are one of the worst speakers Paradigm makes and with the Monitor series that's an accomplishment.

So your saying the monitors are better which bookshelf speaker would you recommend for under $400?

The Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 is certainly a wonderful speaker. So far I like it better than the Beta 20. They can be had very inexpensively from STO Sound & Vision. Keep in my that I find the Beta 20 to be an excellent buy and better balanced than the Titan Monitor (then again almost everything is).

Do the wharfdales have less equal or more base than the beta 20s. They seem smaller and weigh less and the woofer is a 5 opposed to my beta 6 1/2. What does it do better than the betas? Thank you guys for answering my other questions.

Read the Stereophile review...It's pretty spot on from my perspective.

Sounds like it has an excellent tweeter and has got some good base. One question though do the highs ever sound harsh or piercing? I was looking at the wharfdale 9.2s is it the same as the 9.1 except with bigger drivers or is it different?

Tweeter is exactly the same, and it has a bigger woofer and lower bass response...might just be the ticket for you. And no the highs are not at all bright.

"harsh or piercing" is subjective and system dependent to an extent.

What you have upstream of your speakers has a lot to do with how they sound.

You speaker set up and your room itself have a lot to do with how they sound.

Everybody hears things differently.
