Woofer design

Hello
I was wondering, how come some woofers or other speakers don't have the "bubble" in the middle of the cone?
Is this just a design issue or is this something that actually resolves in a better sound? or worse?
Lets say 2 woofers of the same material and same specs one normal design and the other without the "bubble" in the middle, would the sound and bass response be the same
I would appreciate your knowledge

The "bubble" you're referring to is the dust cap which prevents foreign objects getting into the voice coil. For LF reproduction the shape is not critical. In fact, most woofers will work fine if the cap is caved in (damaged) slightly. The concave vs. convex cap is a matter of visual preference. There may be some influance depending on the mass of the cap, how "breathable" it is, how it's attached, etc.. Some consider it common practice to punch a pinhole in the dust cap of some mid and full range drivers.
