Do I need second subwoofer

Anonymous
I have a Marantz SR7300 receiver and 3 pairs of Niles DS6500AT ceiling speakers. My questions are: In want an in-wall subwoofer that will get mounted in the back of the room facing inward. Will this be enough or should I install a second sub?

If a second sub is needed, can I run them both from the Marantz receiver or do I need a seperate amp? If you could provide me with some specific product recommendations, I would appreciate it.

One should be enough. I like the monitor audio sub.

I too have the Niles audio speakers, and simply love them. They also make upscale speakers, so they know how to make quality speakers.

I love their upscale soft sound, and the plaesant tweeter. You can listen for hours without getting fatigued.

Low frequency reproduction is extremely room dependent. In almost every case, there is benefit from having two subs. Placement is critical. If possible, try to have the sub in the corner of the room, not in the middle of a wall. I strongly recommend the following articles:

You can run multiple subs from a single sub out on a receiver. I'm currently running two subs and a series of bass shakers from one sub out to separate amplifiers. Low frequencies also benefit from equalization much more than higher frequencies. Consider a parametric equalizer such as the one in the Behringer Feedback Destroyer Pro.
