Subwoofers - Down firing or front firing

Anonymous
Any opinions.. for a second floor apt setting with people living downstairs. Is front firing a better option? what are the differences acoustically

Thx

It depends upon the subs designer. Downward firing woofers must be kept at a very specific height above the floor to stay within their design envelope. Technically they ate Slot Loaded and should not be turned on thier side to face out. Downward firing subs sometimes show lower distortion because the floor will mask some but they also show slightly lower sensitivity.

Hope this helps.
