Get the most boom for your buck by building your own. Consider the EZSub kits from Creative Sound.

After building a couple of subs and other speakers I just can't imagine buying a manufactured sub. I've run the numbers on the Hsu driver compared with drivers I've used and decided against the Hsu. Building subs is not like designing a pair of high end 2 or 3 way systems. You buy a driver, an amp and following a proven design put them in an enclosure. I guarantee that a $300 DIY sub will outperform the Hsu, Def Tech and the Paradigm. Just in case there are no tools available you'll have to spend extra money and get an EZSub kit but once you go DIY you'll never go back! But, I guess not everybody wants to get their hands dirty.
