Just came back from a test listen. WOW. Magnepan 1.6QRs Rotel 1070 (like I have) and now for the pricey part Audio Research preamp....model unknown Naim CD player....model also unknown Cabling: unknown.
This was a remarkable session. I loved the sound of Maggies 20+years ago when I bought a used set of MG-1s and these are so much more. Better highs, better lows, better definition and transients. Really smooth / full sound with so much detail I wanted to take 'em home right away. Glad I was in the Roadster, which won't hardly even fit an overnite bag for 2!~ They even had a set of black/cherry in stock!
Then the David showed me a pair of Audio Research monoblocs, claiming they were 1 of 2 dealers in US to have these on display....I don't doubt it. They stood over 2 feet tall and had at least a dozen tubes on top. You wouldn't need A/C for your house with these, you'd need Refrigeration! Bring your medicine when you visit. ..................................................
