Bose powered Roommate II - attach to regular stereo?

These 15 year old ish Roommate II powered speakers have both low and high resistance RCA input jacks. The amp is built into the right speaker, which then powers the other, so all input (stereo L and R) goes into that speaker. I get good sound if I just connect the record-out jacks intended for a tape deck to the speakers, but then I have no control over volume (or indeed ability to turn the sound off, short of turning off the receiver completely.)

Can I run the regular stripped-speaker-wire outputs my receiver has into a POWERED speaker without damaging it? If so, which wire goes where? (Remember, red and white RCA jack inputs on the speaker, both low and high resistance available, and stripped-wire outputs from the stereo.)

There's an outer and an inner separately insulated wire in each RCA-jack-wire, so with red and white RCA jacks that gives four wires, positive and negative for left and right, but which is which? Remember both left and right signals go into the right speaker alone.

Thanks O wise ones!

you may want to call Bose and ask them yourself...
