HSU offers a mid-bass unit to cover frequencies between 50 and 80 Hz. Does this concept make sense? Are there similar systems available from other manufacturers?

Why can't you just buy like an Fi BTL 12 and 2 Behringer EP2500s to power it? Just sit it right behind you and cross it over in the mid bass frequencies and you could probably get over 130 dB at those frequencies and it should sound good.

Otherwise, no that's the only unit I know of.

Andre, I am not looking to buy at this time. I was intrigued by the concept. I see many satellite speakers do not extend low. My hypothesis is that this mid-bass unit may pair better with such speakers than a true subwoofer.

For speakers such as the smaller Magnepans it makes great sense. They can roll the bass off around 100Hz, and send the frequencies from 100Hz to 50Hz to the midbass unit, and then send the rest to a sub. This way, the subwoofer can be placed where IT performs the best, and not have to worry about producing perfect intergration AND perfect bass performance at the same time.
