I just got a pair of these from WalMart. Now don't go on about WalMart and gettin what you paid for (I have a wife for that)...I'm just wondering if it's normal for these "flat" speakers not to have any bass response? I didn't expect them to be like my Altecs but these are all mid and high.

Yes, that's why people usually buy 2.1 not 2.0 computer setups so that they have something resembling a subwoofer to produce something resembling bass, which no flimsy little flat speakers could ever dream of doing no matter what the pricepoint.

look to spend anywhere from $100-160 for a decent 2.1 setup, your best bet is buying online using pricegrabber.com and amazon.com to research. Logitech, Altec Lansing, and especially Klipsch make very competent 2.1 systems.
