Cost ratio of receiver or amp versus cost of speakers?

My brother has a HT system which consists of the following:

Onkyo TXDS787 - receiver
Ed Frias EFE DIY - rear surround L/R
Vifa M6500 - main L/R
M52 - center
T63 - rear center (trapizoid dipole)
Velodyne CHT 12 - subwoofer

His question is: Should he upgrade his receiver to meet the cost and the quality of his speakers or is it fine they way it is?

What is the average cost ratio between the speakers versus the receiver or amp?

I think most people usually have about a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio for receiver:speaker... Since I dunno how much any of that stuff costs it's hard to say, but normal would be like $2000 of speakers or $3000 of speakers with a $1000 amp like A Denon AVR-380x. Anyways this is the way most people rock... (unless you're loaded =) )
