Multiroom home audio

In advance, thanks for any help. Am building new home and am torn between using a Niles 4630 with up to 6 keypads with TruAudio ceiling speakers.
Alternate solution is to use a 6 channel amp and am/fm tuner for about half the cost.
Questions:
-Is there a huge difference between the 2?
-With keypads in individual rooms, in a few years don't you agree it will look obsolete?
-Have been quoted about $8K purchase and install system for 4 rooms...add additional rooms would be approx 750-1K/room.
Thoughts? Again, any help appreciated!

Bigsur,

If you intend to use a digital source, such as a CD player or a media centre PC, you could do a lot worse than the Sonos system. This sets itself up as a wireless network. The control pad is also wireless and you can buy as many as you like. You can expand up to 32 rooms (or zones as Sonos call them). You can play a different track from a PC in each room at the same time, or if you like you can get all the rooms or any subset of rooms to play the same track. It's vastly cheaper than you've been quoted. Just add speakers. Since it's wireless you don't need to worry about losing it when you move house either. In my view you'd be crazy to install a fully wired multiroom system nowadays.

Regards,
Frank.

Thanks much for this and you other insigtful posts in the forums. Will check Sonos out- one more question, did not see any outdoor speakers on their site- can u rec any brands which may work with this for an outside deck? Either wall or in ceiling application.
Thanks again!

Sorry it's been a while - I jump in and out (and I've been on holiday).

Each Sonos station requires a set of speakers so you can literally go for anything you like adapted to the room that you're in, or the garden of course. Here's a few examples:
