Panasonic sa-xr55 pure digital receiver, $230 shipped from Amazon.com (see long thread in Receivers section), this is a stunning little bargain that outperforms receivers costing many times more due to its cutting edge new technology.

JBL tends to be bright esp. with a pure digital receiver but it's good for pop and rock, you get strong bass and tipped up highs.

Infinity Primus 150 is a well regarded budget cheaper you can get for $160/pair at Circuit City or online, otherwise their Beta line is better

You could also look at the Polk RTi6 for $380 shipped from crutchfield.com which is a nice warm speaker that'd go well with the Panny.

PS. If you prefer old fashioned analog sign, the NAD 320bee is sort of the analog budget gem, but it costs almost twice the Panny, around $400.
