I've placed an order for Monitor Audio Bronze series speakers. B4 for front and B2 for rear. Using 60/40 for Music/HT. My room is an open living room 16X24 with catherdral ceilings. WOuld not be playing very loud since I have 2 small children in the house. Music preferences are vocal jazz, alternative, and popular. Looking at the Marants SR5500? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

That's a good choice. If you like the Marantz, you might like Harman Kardon as well. Check out www.hifi.com for Marantz prices and jraudio.com or onecall.com for good prices on H/K.

Marantz will probably strain a bit, might even overheat if pushed a little too hard. Make sure you have proper ventilation or even a small fan to move the airfrom the top of the receiver. Otherwise, its a very good match.

Marantz has better real power ratings than any other receiver in it's class.

I've heard the SR5400 (same chassis, same amps) with 5 87db speakers (need twice the power) and no strain at all...
