Hi, I really like clean bass, but i also like to "BUMP IT" when I'm in the mood, and the parents are out the house ;)

Which of these subs do you think would suit me? (300sq ft)

If you have any other suggestions I'm all ears?

If your definition of clean bass comes from your experience with car audio or a Sony subwoofer, then I would suggest that the BIC would suit you better than the AV123 subwoofer, as it simply has more and deeper output. The AV123 sub is supposed to be a bit better qualitatively, but in a mid sized room like you have, it might struggle a bit with output.

At the $200 price point, there isn't much else I could really recommend; if you could up your budget, I would look at the Hsu Research STF-2.

What is wrong with it? Have you considered one of Athena's larger models?

Well to start its a bit small for the room, whenever i try to turn it up a little it gets all boomy and muddy, catch my drift?

Yup. If you're happy with its quality though when it isn't being overdriven, I'd reiterate going with something like this:

Bigger cabinet, bigger driver, more powerful amplifier. I don't expect you'd go too far wrong.

Is that a good sub for the money? I can get a Velodyne for that much!

Its not bad by any means for the money. I seriously doubt the comparably priced Velos are much, if any, better. If you have the money, a good step up would be a Hsu; but that depends on how much you have to spend.

Consider the Hsu I mentioned above at 350. Perusing audiogon, they run about 300 used (there is one on there for 290). Pretty hard to beat for that kind of money IMO. You could also check on their B-stock for reduced pricing.

Are you talking about the stf-2? How would the Stf-1 preform in my room?

Yeah I'm referring to the STF-2.

As far as the STF-1, it will certainly outperform what you have now by a wide margin. Whether it will give you what you want is another story. You will note that on the Hsu website though, it is rated for rooms up to 1500 cubic feet.

Check audiogon.com, ebay, etc. The one I saw for 290 was on audiogon.

Did you get anything? How'd it turn out? I am interested in the x-sub vs. BIC-100 question myself.
