Am I missing it or is it just not there.....? I guess they are assuming that the preamp source will dictate the bass management but I hear my Pioneer 563a has a default sub crossover level that isn't exactly set at the optimum frequency. Any insight?

From what I understand, bass management is left to the DVD-A player (on the 6-channel input) because it outputs the six channels with already separated analog outputs. To use bass management in the receiver, it would have to convert the signals to digital, filter and mix them, and then convert them again to analog for output.

Note: I don't have a DVD-A player, so this is only my understanding and not from hands-on experience.

neal m i have both a dvd-a player and an hk reciever.

and yes they do prefer the bass management to be
used on the player because it do it in the digital
domain before converson happens that way it doesn't convert twice.

having said all that my hk525 has a dvd-a input
selector in the same general area as direct. and
in there i can use bass management.

going this route i do detect any signal degration.

if you have that you might want to give it a try.

I already knew what everyone has responded with so far. I guess I was looking for a "yes, it does have bass management but you need to do this" or "no that particular model does not have bass management in the 6 channel mode". The only reason I'm asking is because I had seen things (I think on avs) about the crossover settings in the pioneer unit and the way that people suggested that you use your receiver to handle bass management. It was more of a curiosity question more than an "I'm going to actually set my system up this way" question. Thanks for trying to help me investigate though.

ok lets try this again with actually spelling correctly.

neal m: I have both a dvd-a/sacd player and an hk reciever.

and yes they do prefer the bass management to be
used on the player because it does it in the digital
domain before converson happens that way it doesn't convert twice.

having said all that my hk525 has a dvd-a input
selector in the same general area as direct. and
in there i can use bass management.

going this route i do not detect any signal degration.

so what i'm saying is my hk does do what your asking.
when you select dvd-a instead of direct. yours may
have this same feature!

If you have that you might want to give it a try.
