Hello,

I had a Question on speakers. The HTR-5440 has a maximum output of 80W. My question is, can i connect a Kenwood 100w speaker or is it recommended to go with 80W or less.

Appreciate your comments,

thanks,

Darra: welcome to the forum. A speaker's rating is usually specified as the <b>maximum continuous RMS power<b> that it can handle. If your Kenwood speakers are rated as "100W Maximum RMS" then that means that the Yamaha HTR-5440, with it's continuous average power output of "80W", would be okay.

The thing you have to look for with speakers is when they read minimum RMS power. Usually, speakers like this are very inefficient and tend to be more expensive -- go figure! Power hungry speakers tend to run at 4Ohms and 6Ohms, so you're probably not in that category.

But, this makes me ask... what kind of speakers are they? Are they Kenwood Speakers? Do you know the model? We're just curious.

There are other things about speakers too (like underpowering) but that's not this discussion.
