Miss America pagent eliminates "talent" portion of contest. I like the part about driving tractors on stage.

Californian Weirdo: I don't like fish, marine fish
Jim: You are listening to KAOS here in Los Angeles.
Californian Weirdo: I don't like fish.
Jim: Yes, we've established that. Ah! Do you have a
request?
Californian Weirdo: Shell fish, guppy, salmon, shrimp
and crab and lobster, flounder,
I hate fish, but I think most of all I hate
fresh fish, like trout. I hate fresh trout.
My least-hated, favourite fish would be sole.
That way you don't have to see the eyes.
Sole has no eyes.
Jim: Oh no!
I'd like to be home with my monkey and my dog.
Jim: Thank you.
I'd like to be home with my monkey and my dog.
I'd like to be home with my monkey and dog.
I'd like to be home with my monkey...
Jim: They don't care. Shut up. Play the record.

Whoa, John! It's a Sony in sheep's clothing with a bunch-ah tubes for color and warmth! GRIN
Sorta like the "Ah!" tape deck, but with a lot more sex appeal, fer shore! Whew! Why do I think it looks like a, ah, uh, some other player with similar specs? Hmmm . . .
BTW - I think I may have found "poor-man's nirvana for CD players." The new Samsung Hd941 players, due out end of September, use the very-highly-rated (by somebody, who knows?) Philips chip SAA7893HL - same chip used in many hi-end CD players. The Samsung will go for under $300 US, and I'm waiting with heavy-breathing to see what it looks/sounds like in consumer testing.
I know, I've gotta compromise here, as my good wife keeps talking about such mundane things as "budget" and "poverty," and the like! GRIN
ok - away to dinner - have a gud night. LR

Larry,

Do you mean the Shanling SACD player could be a sheep in wolf's clothing...? BTW do not forget DVD-A. See my post yesterday (earlier today in Florida) in reply to goldenarrow on The twilight of the CD...? and links therein. Personally, for the cost of the Samsung, I'd get a good replacement turntable...

Sem, is that a quote.....?!

John A. yes, yes, and yes. I think. Hmmm. . Would I get a replacement turntable? Well, had the movers in my life not taken off with about 1,500 of my old LPs, yes, I might consider a new turntable. Looking about now for the best I can afford, so I read, read, read and hope for the best. Right now, I'm just DEPRESSED! Larry R.

"Sem, is that a quote.....?!"

LOL, yes it s John A. Its Roger Waters from the "Radio KAOS" cd. This thread just started out kind of bizarre and it sent me "off." :-)
As you can see, it doesn't take much. I know, I know, I need help.....

Larry,

That is a lot of LPs. Cheer up. Sante Fe beckons.

Sem,

Get a grip, man. But thanks for the explanation. I can't follow Miss America on a tractor, or buffalo chicked toquitos. Whatever next?
