Just wondering what the advantage of a firewall is on a receiver? What does it do and is it worth the extra money?
Thanks

If you get a dvd player, such as the Pioneer Elite 47avi with firewire--then it is a big advantage. If you don't get a firewire dvd player, don't waste your money on a firewire receiver. It automatically recognizes what disc you put in and calibrates your receiver accordingly, it has a much higher bandwidth than standard cables and keeps the connection totally digital.
It can do even more if it is a two-way fire and you connect it to other two-way firewire components, such as an HDTV receiver and/or an HDTV with 2-way firewire. 2-way firewires can be connected up to about 64 devices--hopefully that will never be needed:-)
One-way firewire is mainly only good for the receiver/dvd player connection.

Pioneer's firewire receivers are supposed to do bass management correctly on the firewire (a rarity) for DVD-A and SACD.
