hopefully you guys will be able to help me with this , its about my bass setup but its basically the same concept ......
would it be ok to hook up a 4 ohm (350w) cabinet and an 8 ohm (400w) cabinet to a single 4 ohm (400w) amp?

Matt -

Your question is a bit confusing to me - would you please rephrase with a bit more detail?

When you refer to "cabinet" exactly what do you mean? Are you refering to the power ratings on 2 separate speaker enclosures?

Are these self-powered units, maybe for a bass guitar setup?

yeah sorry about that. it is for my bass guiar setup. i have a head (bass amp) that has an output of 400w at 4 ohms. and i have 1 cabinet (speaker box) that holds 350w at 4ohms and another that holds 400w at 8ohms, they dont need to be plugged into a power jack. if i hook up both of those cabinets to the head will anything bad happen? thanks

that will take your impedance down to 2.66 which
is probably lower then the amp would like to handle.

that is assuming the wiring of the cabinets is
paralell.
which it probably is.

if it's series it would be 12 which more than likely
would not harm your amp but wouldn't give you any
more volume.
