What are the best bit rate and frequency to record at?

I want to save as much memory as possible on my mp3 player but still have decent sound. Right now i am recording at 64 kb/s and 22 khz. Is there a beter combination? Thanx

Minimum for me is 128Kbps/44KHz, usually do it at 256Kbps, but it all depends on you concept of "minimum quality"

To help reduce the size use VBR (variable bit rate) MP3 encoding. This will help save space and maintain quality. what it does is reduces bit rate when near nothing or very few sounds are playing then when the music is more complex the bit rate in increased. try 32kbps as the min and 128kbps as the max and keep the 22khz sample rate.
If you can use joint stereo too. this will make the stereo chanels combine to mono when the sounds are similar on both sides. (this can cut songs in nearly half!) Hope this helps some.
