Amy Grant. Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas. It's THAT time of year again.

I'll be breaking out the Xmas music soon myself. Had every intention of doing it this weekend but I got busy and couldn't give it the attention it deserves.

Listened to Mitch Williams on LP as a kid for years, also Sinatra and many others. It set the standard for the "white" time of year. This forum hasn't the space for all my memories of that time of year and what music influenced on it.

No way near.

I am attempting to tune my sub/speakers in a bit better tonight - in the mid/upper bass, especially. This includes a mixture of tones and music. Some of the songs/discs I am listening to and testing with include:

Maynard Ferguson - Mister Mellow
One Day As A Lion - Wild International
Metallica - Orion
NIN Live: Beside You In Time (Blu-ray) <-- [This one clipped my subwoofer amp unexpectedly]
Temple of the Dog - Your Saviour
Bass Mekanik - Slow Down 4 Big Trux
Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Eve / Sarajevo

and more...

I feel like I've some progress, and the music sounds more involving. There is a lot of work to be done yet...

@Paul - Let's hope you found that disc!

Andre, try listening to

1) Either pipe organ or about the 1st 15 seconds of the Vanessa Williams song "Save the best for last". This song has a heavy bass line coming off the keyboard. If you hear any rattling noise, turn the sub level down till the rattling becomes a pleasant vibration.

2) Either the fist two staffs of Amy Grant's version of "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" or something else with a female voice in the alto range isolated (a capella). If Amy or the singet you choose sounds like a man, your sub frequency is to high. If she sounds like mouse, it's too low.

3) Finally, "Nothing Else Matters". Metallica's "black album" has the uniquality of bass that' punchy, but not very deep, this will help verify that the settings you made with the above selections are correct.

4) Listen to parts of all 3 songs again to make sure they all agree on your settings.

Gerry Gibbs and the Thrasher Big Band, "Live at Luna"

Luna is a jazz club in San Antonio. Gerry is the drummer and band leader. He used to dj a show on Trinity University's KRTU, 91.7 FM or krtu.org on Friday evenings before moving to California. KRTU plays jazz from 5a to 10p central time.

Art, you might be familiar with Gerry's dad, Terry Gibbs.

Scorpions, "Lonesome Crow"

Anyone familiar with the popular stuff by Scorpions should check out Lonesome Crow. It's on iTunes. Recorded in 1972, it was billed as "eccentric heavy metal". It's anything BUT metal! It's much more like fusion jazz than anything else. Anyone who likes Miles Davis's early 70s fusion and what Chick Corea and Weather Report were doing back then or even Pink Floyd would probably like "Lonesome Crow".

Klause Meine and Rudy Schenker are the only members that have remained since day one. Rudy's brother Michael played lead guitar. I don't recall the names of the basist & drummer, but IMO, they're far superior to Buchalds & Rarebell.
