Saw KISS last night in Holmdel, NJ. Must admit I'm not much of a fan of their music. I've always wanted to see them live though, for the show. No matter what the music is, it's always better live IMO.

These guys rocked! I think they're in their 60's or so. You'd never know it. Paul Stanley can perform circles around guys I've seen that are less than half his age. Although Ace Freheley and Peter Criss are not in the current line up, their replacements are phenominal. I heard a few people complaining about it before the show. No one complained when it was over.

I gained a lot of respect for the band as musicians. Each member did a 15-20 minute solo performance. Each member not only sounded great, but had impeccable showmanship to go with it.

I'm not going to run out and buy their CDs. But, but there guys can play and perform as good as anyone I've ever seen. Easily the best 'show' I've ever seen. If you have a chance to catch them live, it's worth every penny, even if you don't care much for their music.

Ok... I have discovered somebody new that totally blew me away!

Bethany & Rufus - 900 Miles

Bethany Yarrow - vocals (and viola)
Rufus Cappadocia - cello

There you have it! This album is beautiful in the simplicity, and is drawing me in.

Not to mention that Bethany has an amazing voice :-)

jazz group on the chesky label.

Man... incredible recording on a late night listening session :-) light a few candles (and the fireplace if I had one). All I would need to do is grab a cup of hot cocoa and I would be done (wine doesn't fit my mood tonight).

Made a shockingly affordable, spur of the moment purchase last week. Have to admit (once again) that I wish I did it some time ago :-) fill in a little more once all is run in.

Off the cuff purchases like that rarely work out for me... but this one is fun!

Aww hell with it! I think im joining the tube club.

I was browsing audiogon and saw a miniwatt/appj that may as well have been advertised as "opened for photos". It is an appj pa0902a (cross between miniwatt s1 and n3).

Ok... too late! I joined :-)

Thought this guy was a good way for me to try tubes based on what i read (although I know that reviews are subjective).

But all I can say is ny marantz integrated is not missed right now, and I have a set of NOS svetlana tubes on the way to replace the stock chinese tubes in it right now.

I still have my trusty mrantz pm-7001... but in an a-b it sounds thick and congested. The tubes are still warm, but it still remains open.

Time will tell if I still feel this way... but to these ears the most telling thing is I can listen at *lower* levels and still have fabulous sound and presentation. }

Pics in the "System Pics" thread Gav...hurry on now!

Roy Haynes - Te Vous!

Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim - The Complete Reprise Recordings

Fred Hersch Trio - Whirl

Tubes can be wonderful, Gav. I love the sound of the Italian tube amps I've heard, Mastersound, Unison & Viva. My Sonneteer destroys my old Prima Luna though. A well executed design whether tube or SS is what makes the difference. I may go back to tubes someday but for now I'm thrilled with where I am. I am also pleased to read that you have made a couple of steps forward. As long as we are enjoying the music it really doesn't matter what kit we're doing it with.

Have you tried "club de sol" by david chesky? Light and airy, but with a latin vibe. Not too "smooth jazzy" either.

Not to mention the outstanding sound quality.
