Having trouble setting up receiver

I took this JVC Rx 315 from my dads basement to my new apartment. I took it because it was still working great and the the speakers still sounded fantastic. I have set it up now in my basement, however I can't get it to play any radio stations or connect to my ipod. I didn't try the ipod when it was still working at my dad's but the radio most definitely worked. I am pretty sure I should be hearing at least static on the stations that it isn't receiving all the way but all I am hearing is static. I have tried putting the speaker wires in every combination possible on the hookups with no success. I have also tried the ipod in every possible combination of connections. I have the receiver plugged in and turned on, with the only other wires being those running to the speakers. I don't know if I am missing any wires, or perhaps I missed a proper connection. What information do you need from me to be able to help out?
