Speaker compatability for new receiver...

About 7 years ago, I bought the original Definitive Technology Surround Sound Speaker system(BP2000's, BPX's, and C/L/R 2000), primarily based on the glowing endorsement of Stereo Review's editor(Julian Hersch). I am looking to upgrade the receiver in my system with a budget of $800 - $1,200("street prices"). I have been looking at recent forum posts and am considering the Denon 3803, Yamaha 2400, and Pioneer Elite 55TXI. I do not know how my speakers would match up with either of these choices and would like some advice from other members. I have an extensive music collection but also enjoy watching DVD's on my Sony 53" TV. In addition to compatability, how important are video "upconversion", ratings such as "THX Select", or the remote MIC's used to calibrate speakers and equipment? My current receiver(Yamaha RV-2090) is so old I have to use 5 cables for feeding Dolby Digital from my DVD players! I'm looking forward to using "coaxial digital" cables with a new receiver.
