Hi all, after using a set of Philips SPA 2300 I have decided that I would like to upgrade the satellite speakers.

The subwoofer has RCA output and I'm wondering if its possible to connect a pair of say main speakers, just by fitting an RCA connector to the end of the standard cable?

If this is impossible are there any alternative suggestions??

As you can tell I'm a bit of a beginner and any help would be much appreciated!

The RCA output from the subwoofer is a line-level output. It will need to be amplified to drive speakers. You have two options.

1) Buy an amplifier/receiver to power the speakers. If you just want a no-nonsense simple Amp the simple T-Amps have great reviews. Here is a good one.

2) You could buy a pair of Active speaker (powered speakers with built in amplifiers). There are a number of great sounding active speakers on the market. They simplify things because the amp is built into the speaker. I would recommend this route with the Audioengine A2 or A5 speakers http://www.audioengineusa.com/ M-Audio also makes great powered speakers at a reasonable price.

After re-reading this I realized that the Phillips SPA 2300 is actually a computer speaker system. The RCA connectors that go to the sat elites are powered, they only put out 3-5W which is not enough to drive high quality speakers.
