Coaxial output on my HK amp..

I just purchased a new set of Tritton ax 720 headphones. They need a optical input. The issue is that I use them with my 360 and PS3, so instead of swithcing the optical cables I want to run it from my HK 3550 amp so there will be no more switching. There is only a coaxial out but no optical out so I am looking at purchasing a coaxial to optical converter.

My questions are?

Will the coaxial out, output dolby digital as the headphones mimic 5.1 for gaming.

Or...

Do I have another option such as a optical splitter that will accept two input's into one output since I will only ever run one at a time?

The optical and ditital out sidnals are the same, save connectivity.
A converter will work fine.

Thanks for the response. Just a little more to clear up though. The only thing I can find in the HK manual is that when recording the coaxial will only output PCM. The headphones will only work with dolby digital.

Will this still be ok?

From here, I say yes Mike.
The pcm still carries the DD signal, but only DD, not DTS.
Should be fine, based on my different gear/same scenario here.

Thanks again that's what I needed to know because these headphones will accept DD but not DTS.
